Mohammed returns as CAZOVA president

Mushtaque Mohammed has returned as president of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Organisation (CAZOVA) at the body’s congress held at the Sunscape Resort In Montego Bay, St James, yesterday.

Mohammed, a Trinidadian, defeated Lucille Hubson, first vice-president and also the president of the United States Virgin Island Federation, by eight votes to four with one abstention. The congress, which was an elective one, had 13 of 14 members present and decided on the new board to serve CAZOVA until 2023. The other board positions were not contested since they were unopposed.

North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) President Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz was present to witness the activities. He also presided over the election process and announced to the congress his intention to submit his candidacy for Fédération Internationale de Volleyball president in 2024.

Daymian K.E. Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago was proposed by the president as executive director, a role that is not an elected position.

Mohammed, First Vice-President Kennedy McGowan, and Secretary General Jacqueline Cowan will become board members at the next NORCECA Congress, to be held in June 2020 in Punta Cana, Dominica Republic. CAZOVA is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
