KINGSMAN reigns supreme

IAN Parsard’s KINGSMAN served notice as an emerging force for the new racing season, clocking a cracking 1:18.3, eased down by apprentice Kiaman McGregor, to romp the six-and-half furlong New Year’s Day Trophy by six and a half lengths.

KINGSMAN, running at odds of 2-1, shot to the lead with Dane Dawkins after the first furlong and strolled to the top of the straight before leaving ENUFFISENUFF for dead.

LATAPY closed inside the last furlong to outfinish MY SWITCHAROO and ENUFFISENUFF for the runner-up spot but in a different world, nowhere in the league of the impressive winner.

Meanwhile, UNBREAKABLE, the 1-2 favourite, took over from TOP EAGLE approaching the half-mile marker and stayed on, unchallenged, to romp home by five lengths with Omar Walker at nine furlongs and 25 yards.

CRIMSON, the lone four-year-old in the Fan Appreciation Day Trophy, stalked the pace set by HARRY’S TRAIN down the backstretch, made his move three furlongs out, straightening four wide, before quickening under Anthony Thomas for a comfortable victory ahead of late-closing 10-year-old, HOVER CRAFT. CRIMSON closed back-to-back winners for Gary Subratie whose down-in-class K D FLYER ran on late in the fourth race at five furlongs straight to nab ADONIS, who had a rough trip, taken down to the inner rail by STANISLAUS, one of two horses running loose after a spill at the start.

Racing continues on Saturday.
