Jamaica’s Justin Burrowes will extend his participation at the Latin America Amateur Golf Championship following round two action at the Mayakoba El Camaleon Club in Mexico.

Burrowes followed up his first-round 78 to shot a four-over-par 75 on the second day, for total eleven over par 153 to be tied for 38th place.

The diminutive right-hander carded one birdie on the front nine along with two bogeys to make the turn at plus one.

Another birdie on the par-five 13th hole followed by two bogeys on holes 15 and 16 meant the Jamaican ended on four over par and tied with five other players in 38th position.

With only the top 50 players making the cut, Jamaica’s other participant, William Knibb, failed to advance as his second-round score of 81 which included one birdie, meant he finished with a 15 over par 157, this after he carded a 76 in the opening round.

Ultimate outcome

For Burrowes, making the cut was the ultimate outcome despite another rough day on the course.

“My driving was a bit shaky today and driving on this golf course is a premium and is very important, I managed to drive the ball much better today which was a lot tougher than yesterday and I was pleased to improve my score and make the cut,” said Burrowes.

Colombia’s Jose Vega is the overall leader following a 65 in the second round to follow up his opening round 74 for an overall three-under par 139.
