We are right on track – Coley

Jamaica Scorpions head coach Andre Coley says his team is right on track in achieving their tournament goals, this after the side wrapped up an exciting five-wicket win over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the fifth round of the West Indies Championship in Trelawny last weekend.
The Scorpions moved from fifth to third in the standings on 57.4 points with two wins, two draws and a loss. The Barbados Pride maintained their lead with 84.2 points followed by the Guyana Jaguars in second on 60.8 points.
Before the start of the campaign, Coley had set his sights to be mid-table at the halfway stage of the competition, and with five more games to go, the sky is the limit for the first-time Jamaica coach.
“Obviously, when you play in a tournament such as this the aim is to win the competition and the guys have really worked hard and we have had to fight for these wins and get to where we are, the batters have started to play a lot straighter as early in the season in previous matches we tended to play around the ball and the bowlers have shared the workload and the wickets which are benefiting the team”, said Coley.
The former Windward Islands coach says the positive results are also attributed to the patience which the team has adopted and it is only a matter of time before the team sees more personal milestones.
“I would have loved to see the batters getting more three figures and even double-centuries but I always say once you play for the team, milestones will come,” added Coley.
Middle-order batsman Jermaine Blackwood is currently second in the tournament batting standings with 385 runs in 10 innings behind Devon Smith of the Windwards Volcanoes who has so far scored 458 runs in nine innings. Fast bowler Nicholson Gordon is currently sitting sixth in the bowling standings with 17 wickets behind leader Veerasammy Permaul of the Guyana Jaguars with 30 scalps.
The competition will resume with round six action starting February 27 when the Scorpions host the Guyana Jaguars at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium.
