Hamilton excited about Dundee move

Forward Nicholas Hamilton says his loan move to Scottish Premier League (SPL) club Dundee United is a dream come true and that he is looking to go there and work hard and give of his best.
Hamilton, who left the island on Friday, is contracted to Canadian Premier League (CPL) club York9 FC. However, he was unable to travel to Canada in time for the CPL, which ended a little over a week ago because of coronavirus pandemic travel restrictions, and he was sent on loan by York-9 to gain experience.
Hamilton is now undergoing a two-week quarantine in Britain, after arriving on Saturday, then he will join the Dundee first team. He will then spend the rest of the season there on loan.
“It is the first division, so it is a top league, and Dundee is a big club,” Hamilton told The Gleaner. “So I just intend to do my best and work hard. It will be a new environment, and even though it will be cold, and all that, this is every young player’s dream – to play in a top professional league. So I just have to be mentally strong and handle this thing.”
Improve his Game
The 23-year-old, who has spent five seasons at Cavalier, said there is also much to learn to improve his game.
“They have signed Charlie Adams, who used to play for Liverpool, and Graham Dorran, that used to play for West Bromwich Albion. So they have a lot of quality,” he said. “I want to go there and learn more about my craft, and I expect to learn a lot from senior players like Adams and Graham. So I want to go there and listen to the coach, work hard, and improve my game.”
Although the cold climate might take some getting used to, the former Holy Trinity High School player said this opportunity could open other doors, and for that reason, he wants to be on top of his game.
“It’s going to be cold, and it will not be easy, but this is the professional level, so you have to be ready,” he said. “It will be just strictly hard work. This is a loan deal, and the club told me up front that once I do [well], I will get opportunities. So I am looking forward to doing my best.”
Hamilton, who scored five goals for Cavalier in the National Premier League before it was voided last season, said that with regular game time, he would be aiming to get to double figures on the goalscoring chart.
“This is the opportunity I have been waiting for,” he said. “I didn’t get to go to Canada, but this is a chance to go overseas and show what I can do. I will join up with the squad for the first game on the 17th of October, and I expect to be in the squad by that time. I am aiming for double figures (goals), if I get the chance, but I am hoping that I can get at least seven goals.”
