Junior Flemmings accused of homophobic slur during Phoenix Rising game

San Diego Loyal, of the United Soccer League (USL) in the United States, are alleging that Jamaican international Junior Flemmings made homophobic remarks towards one of their players.
The incident allegedly happened during a USL game between the Loyal and Flemmings’ club, Phoenix Rising, on Wednesday night.
The Loyal walked off the field in protest at around halftime after alleging that Flemmings used a Jamaican homophobic slur towards Collin Martin, an openly gay Loyal midfielder. The Loyal forfeited the game in spite of their 3-1 lead.
Flemmings denied the allegations after the game.
“At no point did I say a homophobic slur towards Collin Martin,” Flemmings tweeted. “I do not know Collin personally, but I respect all of my opponents equally, Collin included.
"I am disappointed by San Diego’s actions this evening as I have been mauled and ridiculed online with no opportunity to defend myself.”
He ended the tweet by saying he stands “in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, and other marginalised sexual orientations) movement.”
The league said it is investigating the incident.
