Former Gaynstead High school standout Latanya Wilson will be plying her trade in the Australia Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) competition when the 2021 season begins.

Wilson will join several other Jamaicans in the league and will team up with compatriot Shamera Sterling at the Adelaide Thunderbirds.

Wilson, who represented Jamaica at the World Youth Cup in 2017, made her first appearance for the Sunshine Girls earlier this year, during the Netball Nations Cup, where she lined up in the defensive circle with Sterling.

Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon is pleased with the signing of the young Jamaican player.

“Latanya made a strong start to the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season with the Dragons in the UK, demonstrating her tenacity and ability to influence a game,” he said.”She’s definitely a hunter out on court, and we love that she has the versatility to perform in all defensive positions. Latanya has great potential to have a real impact at SSN level and we can’t wait to start working with her.”

Wilson is excited about her new move.

“I cannot wait to be in Adelaide to meet the team as this is a great opportunity for me,” she stated.

The other Jamaicans in the league are Shimone Nelson and Jodi Ann Ward (Collingwood Magpies); Kadie Ann Ward (Melbourne Vixens); Romelda Aiken (Queensland Firebirds) and Jhaniele Fowler (West Coast Fever).
