St Catherine FA hands over tablets to students

Elaine Walker-Brown, president of the St Catherine Football Association, could hardly contain her delight after her administration handed over nine tablets to students in the parish on Friday.
The nine students, which include six boys and three girls, are from various primary and high schools across the parish. The nine recipients are: Marlando Massians (Portsmouth Primary), Kimari Squir (Ewarton), Jevaughn Rowe (Horizon Park), Rashawn Williams (McAuley Primary), Gino Hamilton (Naggo Head), Reneisha Williams (Marlie Mount Primary), Tshani Armstrong (Jericho Primary), Daina Wright (Spanish Town High), and Vijay Francis (St Catherine High).
Walker-Brown told The Sunday Gleaner that her association has been working hard to assist the needy in the parish, and that this is one of the ways in which they are giving back to the communities.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
“I am feeling very good because one of the things is that nothing is happening where football is concerned, and we are from the community and as an association, I think the community should feel our presence,” said Walker-Brown. “I think this is just one way of just getting involved more in the community. I am very happy for the support that we have gotten also from the JFF (Jamaica Football Federation), who saw it fit to be a part of this.”
The handover ceremony was held at the St Catherine FA’s head office at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.
Walker-Brown underscored that her organisation will be vigorously seeking sponsorship as they seek to assist more children in the parish.
“I have written to the Social Development Foundation for support and we are just waiting on their response,” Walker-Brown said. “I am going to try and find other initiatives to make our presence felt more in the communities as we wait on COVID-19 to pass.
“We are now getting our act together because we are now registered as a company with charitable status and so we are hoping that very soon, we will be able to get some tablets,” she added.
President of JFF, Michael Ricketts, lauded the St Catherine FA for its efforts.
“I must congratulate Elaine and St Catherine FA as this is certainly a gesture that will positively impact the students because it is really a huge challenge getting around with this new method of learning, and without proper Wi-Fi and proper instruments they are really going to struggle,” said Ricketts. “This is an initiative that the JFF lauds and we want to wish the kids well and hope that they will make the best use of the instruments.”
