The potential for a move to Germany has throttled the 2021-22 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) plans for Molynes United, who were hoping to build a team around their leading striker last season, Nicholas Nelson.

However, the club has begun to brace for life without their talismanic forward, who could be heading to Germany by the end of January.

The JPL is set to kick off early in January.

Even though Nelson intends to start the JPL season, if everything goes according to plan, he surmises he won’t be able to play for more than a month.

Nevertheless, he wants to leave the club in the strongest possible position.

“It will not be possible to play a full round. I should leave by the end of January, so I will kick-start the league and will try to put my team in a good position.

“I plan to help my team start off well and try to put them in the top three, so it should be hard for them to drop out of the top six,” he said.

AIMS TO BE AMONG TOP SCORERS

He also wants to be among the top scorers when his time comes to leave.

“I wanted to be among the top goalscorers. That might not be possible, but I will try to be among the top scorers before I leave.

“If I play five games, I would like to score two or one in each game. I want to give them [Molynes United] at least 15 points,” he said.

The 23-year-old is full of self-belief and says he plans to seize the opportunity in Europe with both hands. According to Nelson, he wants to forge a career that will make his family proud.

“I don’t know the team I am heading to, but it is in Germany. I will have to keep focused and keep working hard to show there is a lot of talent in Jamaica and in Molynes.

“My aim is to always score in my first game. If I start or come on, if I get 10, 15 or 20 minutes, two or three minutes, I want to score at least one goal.

“Win, lose or draw I always want to score and in my first season, I want to score at least 10 to 15 goals,” he said

“If I score that amount of goals it is likely that I will get a bigger offer and the plan is not to come back to Jamaica right now because I want to make my family proud,” he added.

Molynes United president, Herman Cruickshank, confirmed the player should be on the move, while pointing that the club has found a suitable replacement to fill the void he will leave.

“We have some people looking at him and discussions are taking place. He has ability and he is getting older, so it is important that he gets the break now,” Cruickshank said.

“We have a very good (new) player, he has been under the radar but he scores goals and he [can] really fill the gap. So we have somebody that can step up and be a replacement for him,” he added.
