New Mount Pleasant sporting director, Paul Christie, says he is looking forward to working with former national coach Theodore Whitmore at the St Ann-based club.

Christie disclosed that he and the 1998 World Cup hero have a long-standing friendship and he believes they will achieve good things together.

“Whitmore is not just a person I admire, he has been a good friend over the years. He has helped me a lot, and even at the inception of Dunbeholden I invited him to the club. He was the national coach then and he came and gave us some pointers.

“So there has always been great respect between us and it is a joy and pleasure to work with him on this project, and we are both looking for good things going forward,” he said.

Whitmore was named head coach at Mount Pleasant in late July, seven months after he lost his job as Reggae Boyz head coach in December 2021.

Christie also hopes his positivity will resonate through the entire fabric of the club.

“I am looking to bring a positive enthusiasm to the people of St Ann and make football an event and give them hope and aspirations,” he added.

His role as sporting director includes being in charge of the sports programme, supervising the facility and hiring and managing coaches and other staff members.

Christie, who left last season’s beaten finalists Dunbeholden after four seasons, noted that his job description would not restrict him as he was prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the project’s success.

“I am not stuck on titles, the most important objective is to be a part of the team, part of the objective and the project.

“So if it means carrying water for the team, I will. If I have to be a ball boy, I am prepared to do that. If I have to be the physio, I will. Whatever it takes to make the project work, I am prepared to do that. My main intention is to ensure that the project does not fail.”

His first duty, he said, is ensuring that everyone at the club is on the same page.

“I have just taken up the post and I am still in dialogue with technical and support staff and management staff. The first order of business is to get the Mount Pleasant family on one page, so we can have the same objectives and the same vision.

“So I will not rest until I have achieved the desired result and with that, the sky will be the limit,” he said.
