Violent scenes marred yesterday’s ISSA-Manning Cup Group E encounter between hosts Camperdown High and Papine High as five players were shown straight red cards. The game which ended in a 1-1 draw was played at the Alpha Institute on South Camp Road.

The ugly incident took place in the 71st minute with players from both teams trading blows. After the brawl was brought under control, three players from Camperdown – Dante Thompson, Shabani Rose and Daquan Brown were dismissed from the game. Nasharod Tyrell and Jahmel Johnson were sent off for Papine.

Demario Knight scored for the Camperdown in the 20th minute while substitute Jahbarie Goldson netted the equaliser for Papine in the 84th minute.

Donovan Lofters, head coach of the Camperdown, said he was saddened by his players’ poor behaviour on the field.

“I don’t know where this indiscipline is coming from because this is one of the easiest games that we have ever played,” said Lofters.

“We created over 20 chances and I mean one-on-one chances and we converted one and then we started fighting,” he said.

“I just have to sit down over the weekend and see how I can change the attitudes of my players because this doesn’t look good for us and so I am really disappointed,” Lofters said.

Odile Richards, head coach of Papine, said despite the sending off of two of his players he was happy with the result.

“We are happy for the point from this game and so we should be doing a lot better going forward,” said Richards. “This is our first point of the season and so this is just a stepping stone for us,” he said.

Richards added that his players were merely defending themselves during the melee because they were not the aggressors.

“I think that my players were defending one of their teammates, who was kicked while on the ground,” he said.

In the Group’s other games, Mona defeated Hydel 3-1 and Wolmer’s Boys stopped Kingston High 2-0. Over in Group B, St Jago whipped St Mary’s College 5-1, Holy Trinity beat Cedar Grove 2-0 and Jamaica College and St Catherine played to a 0-0 draw.
