GLENMUIR HIGH ensured they kept their perfect start to this season’s schoolboy football season intact, following a comfortable 6-1 victory over Tacius Golding High in their Zone ‘M’ ISSA dacosta Cup football match at Glenmuir High School yesterday.

Orane Watson’s hat trick was the catalyst for the impressive performance, which sees Glenmuir atop the standings with maximum points from their two games.

From the opening whistle, it was the hosts who jumped all over the visitors in gloomy conditions, taking just 14 minutes to break the shackles when Watson leapt high to head home a right-sided cross from Deandre Johnson.

Jason Whyte made it 2-0 six minutes later when he also headed home from close range.

Tacius Golding would silence the Glenmuir fans in minute 22, as burly defender Jade Wright also headed in a right-sided corner to make the score 2-1.

That goal woke up the Glenmuir attackers once more, and in minute 28, Johnson made it 3-1 before Watson notched a quick double in the 29th and 30th minutes to extend the home side’s advantage at 5-1 heading into the break.

A brief shower seemed to have cooled down the Glenmuir side in the second half, as they took their foot off the gas somewhat, while Tacius Golding defended with more purpose to keep the scoreline in check.

There would be only one more goal in the contest, as David Reid rifled home from inside the area in the 75th minute to seal the comprehensive win.

Assistant coach Deshawn Peck of Glenmuir summed up what was a positive result for the Clarendon-based side.

“Games like these allow the guys to start getting that confidence in themselves. The fact that we are on top of the group now will give us that cushion to go into each game going forward.”

Losing coach Marlon Nesbeth spoke of the superior programme that their opponents possess which reflected the outcome of the game.

“We weren’t such a challenge to this Glenmuir team today. They have a better system than us and they have matured better than us for the season so far and I have to give them props for that.”
