ANTIGUA-BORN WEST Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, on the back of a strong showing at the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, CPL, where he captured a tournament-best 18 wickets, carried over his good form to Australia where he ended the first T20 International between the teams with 2-17. It was not enough for the lanky pacer.

Joseph’s performance was not enough to help the West Indies avoid a three-wicket defeat

The 25-year-old believes that despite the defeat, it was a good showing from the Caribbean team but that they are hungry to level the series, with the second and final fixture slated for Friday morning, starting at 3:10 a.m. Jamaica time.

“Obviously, we are looking forward to win so we can level the series. It’s a quick turn-around, so it’s just for us now to have our meetings and get that in the back of our minds that we have to win that game to level the series,” said Joseph.

For Joseph, despite his level of consistency shown in recent times, he would prefer to have his team coming out on the winning side of proceedings.

“For me, it’s always about adding the one per cent every day, keep on trusting the process, play hard and keep on doing what I need to get the success. Personally, I’m happy, so, hopefully, next game, I could go one better and help the team get over the line.

“It wasn’t the result we wanted, but we pushed Australia to the last over. We just have to go back and see what we need to improve on for the next game,” added Joseph.

The fast bowler heaped praise on Trinidad and Tobago leg-spinner Yannic Carriah, who was making his T20 International debut, finishing with bowling figures of one for 15 from his four overs, inclusive of 12 dot balls.

“It was really good to see him come into the team today. It was really inspiring for a man playing his first game, pressure situation and low-scoring game, to come just after the power play and getting that key wicket for us (Glenn Maxwell),” said Joseph.

After the West Indies scored what turned out to be a competitive 145, the Australians reached their target with one ball to spare as Captain Aaron Finch top- scored with 56.
