Jamaica Scorpions advance to Super50 final
Captain Rovman Powell stroked a masterful unbeaten century to lead Jamaica Scorpions to a three-wicket win over the Guyana Harpy Eagles in semi-final two of the Super50 Cup in Antigua.
The right-hander stroked 105 runs from 92 deliveries with seven fours and three sixes, which enabled Scorpions to reach 322 for seven off 48.1 overs, chasing 319 to win.
It was the highest score in the tournament made by the Scorpions, with opener Brandon King chipping in with 64 from 49 balls and contributions from Alwyn Williams 45 and 22 from Andre McCarthy.
Jeavor Royal with 18 not out hit the winning runs to put Scorpions into the final where they will face Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
Earlier, Odean Smith took five wickets for 65 runs to restrict Harpy Eagles to 318 for nine in 50 overs.
Nicholson Gordon chipped in with two wickets against 86 from Shimron Hetmyer and 56 from Sherfane Rutherford. Kevin Sinclair chipped in with 45 not out.
Powell was glad that his innings was able to take Jamaica to the final for the first time since 2017.
"Adjectives are inadequate to describe how I feel and this is one of my better hundreds and is very special for me," said Powell.
