Cavalier back to winning ways

FOLLOWING a 1-0 defeat by Waterhouse in their last encounter, the Rudolph Speid-coached Cavalier SC got back to winning ways last night with a 2-0 victory over Molynes United at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College.
Cavalier, who started off the brighter of the two, had a big opportunity to open the scoring but Collin Anderson's effort crashed against the crossbar. After heading into the halftime tunnel with scores locked at 0-0, Cavalier took the lead in the 51st minute as Shaneil Thomas calmly slotted home from inside the six-yard box. After repeatedly pressuring the Molynes United defence, the in-form Anderson scored his 10th goal of the season when he capitalised on an error from the Molynes United backline.
Cavalier's Speid said he was just eager to get back to winning ways, and close the gap between themselves and table toppers Mount Pleasant.
"We were anxious the whole week because we thought we did play well enough in that game against Waterhouse. Tonight was just a matter of changing our tactics in the second half and that's what we did. We saw if we pressed a little bit more and play faster that it would reap dividends and that's what we did," said Speid.
Cavalier are second in the league with 25 points, three less than leaders Mount Pleasant. Molynes are in 11th spot with 11 points.
Head coach of Molynes United, Alex Thomas, was disappointed with the defeat as he felt the team lost their composure. The defeat has now made it four straight losses for the club.
"The game is played for 90 minutes and we have to keep our composure and that was what cost us the first goal. We have to keep working and go back to the drawing board for the next game and finish on a good footing going into the second round," said Thomas.
In last night's second match Arnett Gardens clipped Harbour View 1-0. Arnett are third in the league with 21 points while Harbour View are fifth on 19.
