HEAD COACH of Edwin Allen High school’s girls, Michael Dyke, is happy with his team’s performance at yesterday’s Milo Western Relays at GC Foster.

Those performances were led by his Class One’s record-breaking 4x400-metre team.

The quartet of Toni Ann Beckford, Kacian Powell, Amoya Jameison, and Natasha Fox stopped the clock at 3 minutes 37.52 seconds (3:37.52) to turn back perennial rivals, Holmwood (3:38.10). The team was breaking their own record, the previous mark having stood at 3:42.48.

Holmwood Technical’s Rickiann Russell made the race a blockbuster after she made up some 60 metres on the anchor leg but just failed to overhaul the Edwin Allen runner.

GOOD PREPARATION

“Good performances overall from the girls today. This was good preparation going forward and we are where we want to be at this time of the season. We are going to get better as the season goes by and we are ready to defend our title at Champs [ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships],” said a very confident Dyke.

Edwin Allen’s other relay successes came in the Class Three 4x100 metres, where they won in 47.89 seconds, in the 4x200m open, where they stopped the clock in 1:38.71, and in the 4x800m, winning that one in 8:51 .64.

Holmwood Technical picked up two wins in the Class Two 4x100 metres, clocking 47.08 seconds, and in the sprint medley, where they crossed the line in 4:04.69.

Mount Alvernia captured the Class Four 4x100 metres in 49.03 seconds, the fastest time of the class this season.

Among the boys, Kingston College took pride of place with four wins.

They took the Class Four 4x100m in 48.19, the Class Three 4x100m in 45.00 seconds, the Class Two 4x200m in 1:31.80, and the 4x800m open in 7:49.92.

Edwin Allen won the Class One boys’ 4x100m in 41.19 and the 4x400m in 3:17.42.
