Jackson to contest 400m at Velocity Fest

FOLLOWING HER season’s best 52.05 seconds in winning the women’s 400 metres at the GC Foster Classics two weeks ago, World 200 metres champion Shericka Jackson will be in action over the one-lap event again today inside the National Stadium at the Velocity Fest 12 meet.

Jackson, who stated in a recent interview that she is using the event for strength training in preparation for upcoming competition in the 100m and 200m, will be competing in her third 400m this season and will line up in the event at 5:50 p.m. Jackson will line up against Janieve Russell, Rushell Clayton, Ronda Whyte, Tovea Jenkins and Stacyann Williams in what is expected to be a very competitive affair.

The meet will start at 5 p.m. with the women’s 100m where the likes of Anthonique Strachan, Krystal Sloley and Stephenie Ann McPherson of MVP Track Club are down to compete.

Two of the country’s former World Under-20 100m champions are set to clash in the women’s 200 metres. Tina Clayton of MVP Track Club, the two-time World Under-20 100m champion, will face Briana Williams of Titans Track Club who will be making her season debut. The half-lap event will also include Shashalee Forbes of SprinTec, Remona Burchell of SprinTec, Kemba Nelson of Elite Performance, Natasha Morrison and Sada Williams of MVP.

Following his recent world-leading time in the 200m, Zharnel Hughes of Racers Track Club will turn his attention to the 100m where he will clash with Ronald Levy of MVP and Sachin Dennis of Elite Performance.

National 400m record holder Rusheen McDonald of MVP will headline the men’s 200m. Also down to contest the half-lap event are Tyquendo Tracy of Swept Track Club, Brendon Rodney and Demish Gaye of SprinTec, Nigel Ellis of Elite and Antonio Watson of Racers Track Club.
