KC’s Ruto fastest qualifier in Boys’ Class II 1500m

Kingston College’s (KC) Nahashon Ruto has staked his claim to be on the Boys’ Class II 1500-metre podium as day one of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boy’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships begins inside the National Stadium this morning.

Defending champion, Yoshane Bowen, from Maggoty safely booked his spot through to Wednesday’s final following his 4:18:62-second clocking to win heat three ahead of Bellefield’s Odane Davidson, 4:18:71, and Jamaica College’s Tyrone Lawson, 4:19:06.

Kenya-born Ruto, bettered the performance of the defending champion, 4:14:85, to win heat one.

The field for the Boys’ Class II final will also include Bellefield’s Roquelme Johnson, Jamaica College’s Rasheed Pryce, St Elizabeth Technical’s Delano Brown, Calabar’s Justin Webb, KC’s Brian Kiprop, Edwin Allen’s Joel Morgan, Maggotty’s Charehon Connally, Calabar’s Sekani Brown, Bellefield’s Odane Davidson and Jamaica College’s Tyron Lawson.
