AFTER UNDERGOING laser eye surgery more than a month ago, Jamaican super welterweight boxer Joshua Frazer has recovered well and has returned to training, said coach and father Dewith Frazer.

The elder Frazer explained that Joshua has had an issue with his eyes from a very young age, and although there was no great urgency for surgery, the camp saw an opportunity to give the fighter some much-needed rest.

“Joshua had laser surgery on his eye about a month ago. It was not an issue from fighting. He wore glasses from he was a child. But he stopped wearing glasses and we decided to get his eye done, and in the same process take a break, because he needs a mental break; and that’s really what we did,” said the former boxer.

He noted that the fighter’s recovery has been excellent, and that he returned to training recently and is expected to be back in action in about three months.

BACK IN TRAINING

“Joshua is comfortable. Right now he is just back in training and doing very well. He is very seasoned when it comes to fights. So he will be ready to go.

“He will be back in action by July, and there are a lot of people looking at him. Joshua was born in Canada and there are a lot of expectation on his shoulders. Everyone is aware and excited. Both him and Ricardo (Brown) are performing in the ring, so there is a lot of expectation on them, and you are going to be hearing a lot about Joshua again in a short time,” he said.

The 29-year-old boxer, who has a 7-0 record as a professional, is enjoying the rest period, said his father.

“We have to work to keep him in a positive frame of mind and let him enjoy what he is doing.

“The healing and everything is perfect. There are no issues. He needs this mental break right now, so we just did this (surgery) in the meantime.

“So instead of just taking a break, we went ahead and got his eyes done. He had a LASIK, and he is fine and progressing,” he said.
