JAMAICA’S WORLD Championships representatives Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Yohan Blake were second-place finishers in their respective events at yesterday’s World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet in Hengalo.

Coming off a seventh-place finish two days earlier in the men’s 100 metres at the Florence Diamond League meet, Blake, the defending champion in the event, led for the majority of the race before finishing second in a season’s best 10.05 seconds. Winner Reece Prescod of Great Britain also clocked a season’s best 9.99, and third-place finisher Raphael Bouju of Denmark crossed the line in in 10.09.

Thomas-Dodd had a heave of 19.21 metres for her second-place finish in the women’s shot put as Maggie Ewan of the United States won with 19.61m.

Siffan Hassan of the Netherlands scored a double victory at the meet while there were meet records for Armand Duplantis of Sweden, Femke Bol of the Netherlands, and Grant Halloway of the United States.

Hassan, after capturing the women’s 10,000 metres the previous day in a world leading 29:37.80 minutes, returned yesterday to post a season’s best three minutes 58.12 seconds to capture the women’s 1500m.

Halloway raced to a meet record of 13.03 seconds to capture the men’s 110m hurdles ahead of his countrymen Devon Allen, season’s best 13.12, and Eric Allen, 13.29.

The outstanding Bol, who raced to a world-leading time in the women’s 400m hurdles in Florence last Friday, was an impressive winner in her first 400m flat outing of the season, capturing the event in 50.11 seconds. Duplantis won the men’s pole vault event in a meet record 6.11m.
