National Supply donates $1.2m to MBBGC for sports, music

Leading industrial hardware firm National Supply, in partnership with DeWalt Tools, has strengthened its corporate social commitment with the Montego Bay Boys and Girls’ Club (MBBGC) through the donation of $1.2 million to support the club’s basketball and netball teams, as well as its renowned marching band.

Donovan Chen See, National Supply’s director of sales and marketing who made the presentation to members of the respective teams recently on the multipurpose court at the club, said this investment marks the continuation of a relationship established 10 years ago.

He revealed that various initiatives and projects at MBBGC have received millions of dollars in funding from National Supply throughout those years.

“The continued support of the programmes of Montego Bay Boys and Girls’ Club demonstrates a deep commitment to youth development through sports and to the people of the city of Montego Bay, and the western region who have been unwavering in their support for the company,” said Chen See.

Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay and interim chairman of the MBBGC, Richard Vernon, who attended the presentation ceremony, stated that National Supply is widely known for its continuing fulfilment of corporate social responsibility, particularly via youth development, and that their assistance makes the club stronger.

The 80-year-old River Bay Road-based sports and music club has produced some of Jamaica’s finest sportsmen and women, including former Reggae Boy and head coach of Jamaica Premier League club Mount Pleasant, Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, and former national goalkeeper Aaron ‘Wild Boy’ Lawrence.

They have also produced world-class musicians who have backed local international stars like Jimmy Cliff and athletes who have gone on to represent the country in sports like football and table tennis.
