JAMAICA’S TAHLIA Richardson booked a spot in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games women’s singles badminton semi-final yesterday with a commanding two-set victory over Centro Caribe Sports’ Eneida Santizo.

Richardson turned back Santizo in a 21-11, 21-16 affair to set up a semi-final against Caribe Sports’ Nikte Sotomayor, who had a straight-sets victory over the Dominican Republic’s Alissa Acosta.

Richardson’s teammate, Samuel Ricketts, also produced a solid performance, strolling to a straight-sets (21-7, 21-10) victory over Trinidad and Tobago’s Will Lee.

In women’s doubles action, Jamaica’s pair of Katherine Wynter and Tahlia Richardson also secured a semi-final spot, defeating El Salvador’s Margareth Revelo and Gabriela Barrios 22-20, 21-9.

In hockey action, Jamaica’s women finished fifth, edging Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 in their playoff fixture following a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.

In netball action, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls won their third straight game following a dazzling 110-7 drubbing of the Dominican Republic. The Sunshine Girls were led by the pair of Simone Gordon who shot 95 per cent (36 of 38) and Amanda Pickney who was equally impressive, shooting 47 of 51.

Jamaica will play their next fixture today at 8:30 p.m. against St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The result marked the second time Jamaica were scoring more than 100 goals after their 116-10 victory over the Cayman Islands on Tuesday. The Jamaicans opened their netball campaign with a 62-34 victory over Barbados.

In the final of the men’s 800 metres, Jamaica’s Tarees Rhoden finished eighth in a time of 1:53:82. The race was won by Venezuela’s Jose Maiti in a time of 1:45:39.

Jamaica’s Tishana Daley safely booked a spot in the final of the women’s 200 metres following a 23.31 clocking to win semi-final three ahead of Cuba’s Yunisleidy Daley (23.59) and Colombia’s Lina Licona (23.70).
