Jamaica's Sunshine Girls are all smiles as they get ready to leave the island for the World Cup in South Africa from the Donald Sangser International Airport in Montego Bay earlier today.

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls departed the island earlier today as they set sights on capturing the 2023 Netball World Cup, to be held in Cape Town, South Africa from July 28 – August 6.

The team which left the island, made up of the local-based players will meet with their overseas-based teammates in South Africa where they will begin pre-tournament training.

Sean Murdock, Sunshine Girls assistant coach believes the team is confident it can win the Netball World Cup.

Jamaica, who have been to every Netball World Cup since its inception in 1963, have a tournament-best finish of third, achieved on three occasions 1991, 2003 and 2007.

But Murdock is also of the belief that the other contenders, South Africa, England, Australia, and New Zealand are also very confident and so his charges have to execute their plans at each time of the asking.

The Sunshine Girls are drawn in Pool C alongside the trio of hosts South Africa, Wales, and Sri Lanka. Their campaign will tip off against Sri Lanka on the opening day.
