Shama Beckford and Imani Wilmot head into today’s Jamaica Surf Association’s (JSA) sixth and final qualifying series at Long Bay beach in Portland, as leaders of the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

Both lead their respective sections with 1000 points.

Beckford heads a 19-man men’s field ahead of Icah Wilmot in second on 860 points and Ronald Hasting in third on 730 points.

Imani Wilmot sits atop the female standings ahead of Elim Beckford in second and Zoe Bain in third. Five women are taking part in the qualifiers.

The event will crown the national male and female champions. The top-12 ranked men and top-eight women will qualify for the national championships in December.

President of the JSA, Inilek Wilmot, said he is expecting great performances and competition as surfers battle to secure the final qualifying spots.

“We expect decent waves in the four to six feet height range. Our top surfers are expected to be in attendance so we expect great surfing performances.

“For the national championships the top spots are secured, however, there are a number of surfers in the top 20 who could make it into qualifying positions if they get a good result in this event,” he stated.
