LOWLANDS, Tobago (CMC):

Team Jamaica returned triumphant from the Caribbean Golf Association’s 4-Ball Championship in Trinidad and Tobago, securing their fifth consecutive win of the prestigious Ambrose Gouthro Cup last weekend.

Hosted at the Plantation Golf and Country Club, Jamaica claimed the title with an impressive 73 points, leaving the host country Trinidad and Tobago in second place with 56 points. Bermuda finished third with 38 points, followed by the Bahamas (34), Barbados (23), and the Cayman Islands (9).

Jamaica, fielding the largest squad of 20 golfers, dominated in four of the six trophy categories and earned second place in another. The team’s male golfers secured three titles and a fifth-place finish, while the women won one title and placed second in the other.

The veteran team of Dr Mark Newnham and Owen Samuda took home the Francis Steele & Perkins Cup for senior men, finishing at seven-under-par 209 across three rounds. They narrowly defeated Bermuda, who posted a one-under-par 215.

In the Higgs & Higgs Trophy category, Radcliff Knibbs and Keith Stein’s stellar play secured a victory with a remarkable 11-under-par 205. Jamaica’s B team of Metry Seaga and Mike Gliechman followed closely, taking second place with a four-under-par 212.

Dorrel Allen and Carlyle Hudson earned the Ashraph Ali Trophy for Masters, tying with the Bahamas at a combined score of 220.

The mid-amateur duo of Andre Dhanpaul and Delroy Johnson placed fifth for the Ramon Baez Romano Trophy, as Bermuda won the category with a nine-under-par 207.

In the women’s division, Michelle McCreath and Maggie Lyn claimed the Dessie Henry Trophy with a score of 252, outpacing Trinidad and Tobago’s 264. Trinidad and Tobago, however, finished ahead of Jamaica in the Maria Nunes Trophy with a narrow two-stroke lead over Jamaican players Jodi Munn-Barrow and Lisa Gardner.
