Paraplegic convicted of murder gets 50-years in prison

A paraplegic man who was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2016 shooting death of his neighbour in a Chicago high-rise has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.

The Chicago Tribune reports that 51-year-old Reggie Daniel was sentenced last Friday after he told the judge that he was sorry he killed commodities trader and former University of Iowa football player Darren Joss, and that he only shot him to defend himself from an attack.

But Cook County Judge Carol Howard, who found Daniel guilty in August, told Daniel that the evidence showed that the dispute between the two men was over when Daniel followed Joss into the building's exercise room and shot him as he used the elliptical machine.
