They are not looters
The Editor, Sir:
I am asking that you stop emulating some other news organisations by using words used by The Associated Press, reporting that the people of Haiti are "looting" United Nations' warehouses for food. These headlines have been now removed from many newspaper reports. It is quite outrageous to refer to starving, dying people who are in a disaster such as this as looters.
The UN has to be lambasted for having warehouses of food and not getting it into the hands of the hungry. We do not pay the UN to have food in warehouses at a disaster area. There is a big bias in the mainstream media to try to depict people of the Third World in a negative light. This is just one more example of thoughtless reporting.
I am, etc,
