It Doesn't matter how big the celebration is, it's the sentiment that counts.

Canadian High Commissioner Stephen Hallihan hosted an early-afternoon reception on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day. It marked the 143rd anniversary of Canada's independence and the high commissioner admitted it wasn't the usual big splash. But, nevertheless, he saluted his homeland, pointing out the occasion was to celebrate the "unique privilege" it is to be a Canadian.

He said that Canada was very blessed with natural resources and good governance, with Jamaica also high on its list of friends. He then expressed thanks to Jamaica for being a friend to its neighbours and providing a warm refuge for "frost-bitten Canadians".

We have the highlights.
