There's not much you can do when Mother Nature comes calling. The 22nd annual Heart Foundation of Jamaica (HFJ) Wine and Food Festival is usually a well-supported event, as it was last Friday, at the LIME Golf Academy in New Kingston. But as patrons were enjoying their food samples and sipping on fine beverages, they started to feel the first few drops. Slowly, the raindrops grew and increased in volume, so much so that most of those in attendance had to scamper for cover, begging a 'kotch' where they could.

But despite the heavens opening up, it didn't stop loyal supporters from coming in. Perhaps they had scrutinised the weather reports or walked with their umbrellas, just in case. Or maybe they simply wanted to show their support to the HFJ, as the organisation tries to keep the public abreast of matters of the vital organ. Whatever the reason, the patrons were determined to go around and take in what the various food booths had to offer.

And they would not be disappointed. There was good variety including menu items for the non-meat eaters. This year's event was dubbed, A Gourmet Evening. Spot prizes were again a feature and despite the rainy interruptions, some guests stayed after the scheduled 10 p.m. close.
