The members of the American Women's Group (AWG) held their first meeting for the new year yesterday at the St Andrew residence of Tammie Parnell, wife of United State Chargé d'affaires, Isiah Parnell. President Trefina Asiedu outlined plans for the year, chief among them two major fund-raising events for the group's ongoing scholarship programme for needy students.

Special guest at yesterday's lunch was Sydney Bartley from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, whose presentation included a session on the 'talking drum'. His presentation gave insights to Jamaican culture, as it relates to women and how work was accomplished with music and song in the days of our foreparents. Here are snapshots from the event.
