Port Authority of Jamaica experiences record cruise day
For the first time in the Jamaican cruise industry, the Port of Montego Bay, Historic Port of Falmouth and the Port of Ocho Rios all had two mega cruise liners call simultaneously last Wednesday, setting a country record for the highest number of cruise ship visitors to the island in one day.
The Carnival Conquest and Aida Aura visited the Montego Bay Port, Freedom of the Seas and Norwegian Sun called at Historic Falmouth and Carnival Liberty and the Norwegian Pearl visited the Ocho Rios port. These ships accounted for over 21,000 passengers and crew in a single day.
According to the Port Authority of Jamaica, the economic impact of this record call on our ports is tremendous, as the total spend for that day accounts for over US$1.5M in revenue from passengers alone. Major local industries such as transportation, craft, in-bond, restaurants and bars share in the benefits from this high influx of cruise ship passengers.
