The Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) will celebrate the Day of the Seafarer on Monday, June 25.

The celebration is geared towards highlighting seafaring as a noteworthy career choice; the significance of seafaring to Jamaica, the region and the world; as well as highlighting the life of a typical seafarer.

The day's activities will include a search-and-rescue demonstration, a parade by the CMI cadets, and a brief information session for high schools.

Acknowledgement for the 'Day of the Seafarer' was decided at the 2010 Manila Conference. The day is to be celebrated each year by governments, shipping associations, companies, ship owners and institutions.

The Caribbean Maritime Institute is the Caribbean's centre of excellence for the provision of maritime education, training, research and consultancy.
