JIC celebrates 60th

Members of the Joint Industrial Council (JIC), in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the JIC, made courtesy calls on several officials. Members of the Joint Industrial Council (JIC) for the Port of Kingston joined in celebration for the 60th anniversary of the council which, through its work, has maintained a stable industrial climate on the port for over 35 years.

The council was established on August 26, 1952 by the Shipping Association of Jamaica, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union, the Trade Union Congress and the United Portworkers and Seamen Union. The week of activities began with a church service held at the Kingston Parish Church. The group was welcomed by the Right Reverend E. Don Taylor, rector at the Kingston Parish Church and ministered to by Father Khan Honeyghan, assistant curate. As part of its celebrations, the JIC members made several courtesy calls on the Minister of Labour and Social Security Derrick Kellier - representing Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller; Andrew Holness, leader of the Opposition. One is scheduled for and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen today. The JIC also celebrated its diamond anniversary with a luncheon and awards ceremony held at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel. The event recognised and lauded the contribution of several individuals to the advancement of the mission of the JIC.
