KCT celebrates World Maritime Day
KCT Services Limited, managers of the Kingston Container Terminal (KCT), will be celebrating World Maritime Day under the theme: 'Shipping on a Mission', in line with the Jamaica 50 focus and the role of KCT in the maritime industry.
World Maritime Day is observed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on the fourth Thursday in the month of September. The World Maritime Day theme for 2012 is 'IMO: 100 Years After the Titanic'.
KCT's celebration began with a service of thanksgiving which was held on Sunday, September 23, at the Portmore United Church.
The celebration will continue with the hosting of the KCT Invitational Games and Wellness Fair on Saturday, September 29, at the KCT Sports Facility, Port Bustamante. The fair is being planned with the entire family in mind and is sponsored by: the Port Authority of Jamaica, WATA, Powerade, Digicel, Party Plus, Shipping Association of Jamaica and Carib Star Shipping.
Reviving team spirit
Alden Witter, chairman of the planning committee for the World Maritime Day celebrations, said that, "Our aim is to revive the team spirit as a family 'Shipping on a Mission'."
The Kingston Container Terminal has held the prestigious position of being the leading container terminal in the Caribbean for over 30 years and has a creditable ranking by world standards. It currently enjoys the position of being the largest transshipment point in this region outside North America.
KCT Services Ltd employs a highly skilled labour force of over 800 professionals, experts and support staff. In 2011, the container terminal handled in excess of 1.5 million TEUs.
