As a result of extensive discussions with the United Kingdom-based Cunard Cruise Lines, the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) has secured calls from the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. The Queen Elizabeth will call on the Historic Falmouth Port and the Queen Victoria will call on the Port of Montego Bay on January 22 and 23, respectively. The PAJ, which is an agency of the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, has portfolio responsibility for cruise shipping in Jamaica. It is, therefore, credited with securing all cruise ship calls to Jamaica as well as the marketing of the country's four ports of call, which is done under the 'Cruise Jamaica' brand.

The Queen Elizabeth is a signature class cruise ship operated by the Cunard Line. She is the second-largest ship to be constructed for Cunard, exceeded only by the Queen Mary 2, and is capable of carrying up to 2,092 passengers. The Queen Victoria is the running mate to Queen Mary 2, and the Queen Elizabeth. At 90,000 GT, she is the smallest of all three Cunard ships, after the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth.

The visits are significant for the PAJ as calls from this premier cruise line give credence to Jamaica's enviable position for the last seven consecutive years as the world's leading cruise destination. It stands as testament to the quality of the Jamaican cruise ports and will serve to further enhance their marketability.
