SAJ supports Blood Bank
Staff and members of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) contributed to saving lives by donating blood to the National Blood Transfusion Service (Blood Bank) on December 11.
The Blood Drive, which was held at the SAJ's Fourth Avenue Offices, saw shipping-industry members donating 44 units of blood to the Blood Bank.
"I want to thank you for this wonderful and productive partnership," said Igol Allen, blood donor organiser at the Blood Bank.
Allen reported that each unit of blood collected could help three persons. With the 44 units collected, that is approximately 132 persons that can be helped through the SAJ's efforts.
The SAJ organised the blood drive after learning that the Blood Bank was in dire need as the local spread of the chikungunya virus severely affected the rate of donation. The Blood Bank has communicated via its website that it is running significantly low on types O positive and AB negative and are encouraging persons to donate.
