Argentina President urge farmers to end protest

Argentina\'s President, Cristina Fernandez said she would not negotiate with striking farmers until they end their protests over rising taxes on major export goods.

The strike, which is now in its third week, has led to food shortages in shops and has also affected exports.

The strike has also led to clashes in the capital Buenos Aires.

The latest crisis was reportedly sparked by the government\'s decision to introduce a new scale of export taxes, raising levies in some cases up to 45 percent.

President Fernandez said the taxes are a means to raise revenue, curb inflation and guarantee domestic supplies.
