Despite the economic challenges facing the nation, many persons are finding enterprising ways to eke something out.

One such person is Corine Williams, who has taken on the fight for survival with crochet.

"I make swimsuits, bags, shorts, dresses and whatever is ordered. My aim is to please my customers, so I work to please them," Williams said.

She is 24 years old and a mother of one, and says she took up crocheting as a way to survive.

"Now is the time for people to find a way to survive, so the needle and thread is my way, " she said.

Williams said crocheting is time consuming, but she is happy she can make an honest living.

"If a person needs swimwear it is $3,500 and a bag is $2,000. It depends on the style though," the Kingston resident said.

Williams can be found most days selling her creations on the busy Hellshire Beach in St Catherine.
