THE EDITOR, Sir:
The Math Club (NY) has shipped some items to The Math Club (Ja)/Seaview Gardens Early Childhood Centre which have been sitting on the wharf since January 5, 2011.
These items include three desktop computers which will definitely benefit the students and other members of the community. Also, there is a small power generator, which will be a plus to the school, considering that the school building has not had electricity for the last 30 years.
The shipment papers are at the finance ministry awaiting the minister's signature. However, because of the time the waiver process takes, the items are incurring storage fees on the wharf. If this continues for too long, the fees may exceed the items' worth.
I am seeking the assistance of the Jamaica Customs Department for a solution to this matter that the storage fees can be waived so the schoolchildren can get the much-needed equipment.
I am, etc.,
