Antilles Freight Corporation (AFC), represented by local agent Ocean Air International Limited, was recently honoured as one of 50 outstanding Jamaican business achievers in Florida. The corporation received the award at the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce's seventh annual recognition luncheon held at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.
The award was presented as part of Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence. AFC was established on June 24, 1988, as the US counterpart to Ocean Air International Limited - the Jamaican agent in Kingston and Montego Bay. AFC currently has two equal partners - Ed Lopez, president and Jamaica-born, and Joe Rhoden, executive vice-president. Rhoden also serves as a member of the board of directors of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce. He is managing director of Ocean Air International Limited. The company offers weekly ocean-freight sailings as well as a daily airfreight consolidated service to various countries in the Caribbean. AFC also offers electronic services, including warehousing with full inventory control, which enables them to provide up-to-date status on the movement of various cargos.
AFC has been a significant contributor to the international business community and the brand/invest Jamaica initiative. They have also played a supporting role in job creation and cultural development in South Florida's Caribbean community.
