The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) has secured calls from MSC Cruises, a division of the Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world's second-largest shipping company.
The agreement stipulates that MSC will add summer calls beginning in 2014 to its winter schedule. Due to the close working relationships with the line, the PAJ has been able to successfully secure Jamaica as one of the main stops on the summer itinerary with the MSC.
MSC Cruises is the fourth-largest cruise operator in the world after Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and Norwegian Cruise Line with a six per cent share of all passengers carried and cruise revenue in 2012.
The MSC Divina was constructed from 2010-2012, and was originally called the MSC Fantastica until the company renamed her to honour actress Sophia Loren. She is the twelfth cruise ship in MSC's fleet, and is the largest of their ships at 139,400 tonnes. She can accommodate 3,959 passengers in 1,637 cabins; with a crew complement of 1,325.
MSC Cruises is an Italian shipping company devoted to the cruise market with operational headquarters in Sorrento. The company employs 12,000 people worldwide and has offices in 43 countries.
