LINSTEAD, St Catherine:
FIFTEEN PERSONS were recently honoured by the Linstead Community Development Committee for giving selfless service to the community.
It was a function that brought the proverbial 'early Christmas' that not even the downpour could dampen.
The recipients were showered with words of admiration for their spirit of selflessness displayed in the development of the rural township.
Guest speaker Norman Howell told the awardees that they are true "heroes" and that they should continue to serve because it is a noble quality.
The function held under the theme 'Building Our Community For A Better Today', was hosted at the Linstead campus of Moneague College.
Among the awardees were business operators, police personnel, members of the Social Development Commission and politicians.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees Deputy Superintendent of Police Duane Wellington lauded the committee for recognising residents who have contributed to the development of the community.
"It is good to be recognised for making positive contribution in the development of any community. It is a meaningful gesture that I will cherish at all times," DSP Wellington said.
Meanwhile, Chairman Devon Smith said the committee is 15-years-old and its continued existence is through the assistance of stakeholders.
"We just want to say thanks to those who have contributed to the continued work of the committee throughout the years," Smith said.
