The police have now outlined the allegations against attorney Don Foote who was this morning charged with fraudulent conversion.

In a release this afternoon, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said Foote was allegedly given $18 million to pay over to his client but he did not do so.

The police say several attempts to obtain the money from Foote were unsuccessful.

This morning, Foote’s attorney, Bert Samuels, said the charge relates to a trust fund for a minor who is now 17 years old.

But he said having looked at the allegations and documents provided by his client, there is absolutely no wrong-doing on Foote’s part.

The lawyer said the minor and his mother had given written instructions to Foote in relation to the fund, and this was witnessed by a Justice of the Peace.

He said Foote acted on those written instructions.

Samuels further alleged that Foote was called in by the police yesterday but was not given the opportunity to produce documentation to prove that he had the funds.

And the lawyer said his client was charged this morning, hours before the bank was open so that he could obtain proof.

Foot was granted bail in the sum of $1 million and is to appear in court on May 26.
