Two-hundred Jamaicans in need of critical eye surgery are to benefit from free operations from a Chinese Medical Mission.
The beneficiaries are cataract patients.
Cataract is the number one cause of blindness in Jamaica.
The mission, which includes six medical doctors and two nurses, arrived on May 18 and will depart on May 28.
In addition to the operations, the Mission will also include an educational component through seminars and symposia to allow for the sharing of information and best practices among the Chinese team and their Jamaican counterparts at the Kingston Public Hospital.
At a ceremony at the hospital yesterday, Minister with responsibility for the Public Service, Horace Dalley, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Government to the People’s Republic of China.
