New York:
The melodious tunes of the Tropical Rhythms band echoed in the Jamaica Estates private residence of Vilma and Delbert Daley for the annual summer soiree in New York on Saturday, July 25.
Specially invited guests were in high spirits for the fundraiser for the 21-year-old NGO, Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO).
Kick-starting the formalities was council member for the twenty-fourth District of Queens, Rory Lancman, who thanked the organisation and all involved for the wonderful work they have been doing to assist disadvantaged children in Jamaica and the United States.
Filled to capacity with savoury dishes from New York's renowned restaurants: The Door, Golden Krust Bakery and Caribbean Food Delights, patrons were immersed in real Jamaican cuisine. They took a break from indulging to feast their eyes on the red carpet-ready pieces from a fashion presentation.
Still basking in the glory of Caribbean FashionWeek, emerging Jamaican designer Zaid Smith was first on the runway, along with impy-skimpy metallic swimsuits from The Mushroom. Clutch Boutique's summer resort wear graced the stage next with an array of fabulous pieces that included the must-have wrap dress and other wardrobe staples which were all about colour and sex appeal, perfect for the hot days ahead.
Next was Kahnami Creations, inspired by the need to make designs more earth-friendly. The burlap line was infused with feathers and silk. Closing the curtains was the signature Glenroy collection from Jamaica-born designer Glenroy March. His D'Marsh collection featured three statement pieces for women and sexy resort wear for men.
Just before DJ Dre took over the controls, the three lucky raffle winners were announced. Third prize - a four-day, three-night stay at BahÌa PrÌncipe with a round trip, courtesy of JetBlue - went to Mark Crawford. An elated Myrna Peart walked away with the second prize - five days, four nights at Jewels Paradise Cove and round trip by JetBlue. The ultimate winner was Michael Williams.
