The new People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker candidate for East Rural St Andrew, Peter Blake, is calling for unity in the constituency saying the focus should now be on ensuring an election victory.

Blake won yesterday’s candidate selection after getting 218 votes to defeat sitting Member of Parliament Damion Crawford, who got 166 votes.

Crawford's supporters have strongly rejected the elections results and say they will not vote in a national election if he is not the PNP’s candidate.

Blake says he understands the anger of Crawford supporters.

But he says he hopes that with time will heal the wounds and there will be unity in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Blake says he plans to continue some of the programmes undertaken by Crawford in the constituency.

According to Blake, the MP did a good job in improving infrastructure and implementing education and training programmes.

Blake says he will be building on the successes while introducing his own plans to improve the constituency.
