Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillors walked out of a Roads and Works meeting at the Clarendon Parish Council yesterday after a disagreement with People National Party, (PNP) councillors over what they say is the unfair distribution of funds for roadworks in the parish.

Minority leader for the JLP Caucus in Clarendon, Winston Maragh said there was an attempt to muzzle him as he sought to point out that there is an uneven distribution in the allocation of a sum of approximately $13.5 million which was earmarked on for road rehabilitation work in the parish.

According to Maragh the selected work was to be carried out in three PNP divisions.

However, the Deputy Mayor of May Pen and chairman of the meeting Uphell Purcell countered the argument stating that money has been allocated evenly to carry out work in as many divisions as possible.

Purcell said the meeting was continuously disrupted by Councillor Winston Maragh and former Mayor Milton Brown.

The Deputy Mayor says is settled and work has already begun on all three projects.
