Nurses at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James helped deliver the hospital's first baby of 2016 to 19-year-old mother Shanice Campbell early Friday morning.
The proud mother told The Gleaner she was delighted with the professionalism of the nurses, whose care and dedication helped her bring her son into the world.
"I am happy. I never knew it was a boy, but either way, even if I had delivered a girl baby, I would be equally happy," said the doting mother.
Campbell gave birth to her son, Imani Solomon, at 4:23 a.m. on Friday without complications. Little Imani was the first confirmed birth of a newborn in St James for 2016.
Ward Sister Chelsea Dowman said the first-time mother and child had been doing well and that she expected the child to grow healthy and strong.
The young mother was presented with a basket filled with baby products by Kirk Distributors' sales supervisor, Althea McIntyre.
Kirk Distributors are the retail and wholesale dispensers of the Loveable brand of diapers and Johnson and Johnson products.
A delighted Campbell, who hails from the Norwood community, said the baby products were well needed and that she was grateful for the gift.
