A number of local and international companies have signalled their intention to partner with the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) to host the first ever Women in Energy Conference to be held in the Caribbean. The event is scheduled for March 10-11 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, Kingston.
Among the companies pledging their support for the conference are: New Fortress Energy, Marubeni Corporation, Petrojam, Jamaica Private Power Company, General Electric, and BMR Energy.
US-based company, New Fortress Energy, which was recently selected as a supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to JPS, will be a platinum sponsor of the event. This partnership of powerful women and a "powerhouse" such as New Fortress Energy will no doubt prove fruitful, as JPS President and CEO, Kelly Tomblin, explains: "The conference will urge participants to do power differently as we lead in an increasingly dynamic global environment.
"We are delighted that New Fortress and other energy companies recognise the need to continue to bring diverse perspectives to the energy challenges in the Caribbean, and we have designed the conference to make sure those voices are heard during the two days," she said.
Founder and co-chairman of the board of Fortress Investment Group, Wes Edens, said the partnership on the Women in Energy Conference is only one of many anticipated in the region.
"New Fortress Energy is committed to investing and creating value in Jamaica and everywhere we do business.
"While our immediate focus is on partnering with the region to meet fuel diversification needs, we believe in looking at long-term development wherever we invest.
"Supporting the development of Caribbean talent is one of the ways New Fortress is looking forward to collaborating with Jamaica and other Caribbean countries to help meet the region's long-term development goals," he said.
In the meantime, JPS says it is expecting more than 200 women from Jamaica and other Caribbean countries to attend the conference, to learn, connect, and inspire.
