The Jamaica Stock Exchange Combined Index rallied by 1,370 points on Tuesday to break a losing streak that has persisted for the past five trading days. The market closed up 0.82 per cent at 169,322.87 points.
Of the 35 stocks that traded, 17 appreciated in value, 14 declined and four closed the day unchanged. traded unchanged. The three primary market movers accounted for 54 per cent of all trading activity — Sagicor Group added 82 cents to close at $23; JMMB Group 7.5% preference stock shed five cents to close at $2.10 while Jamaica Broilers Group dipped by 29 cents to close at $14.47.
The overall value of trades was just below $72 million.
The combined index includes the main, junior and US dollar equities markets. The JSE Index rose by 1,328 points to close at 176,953.64; the Junior Market Index closed 13.12 points at 2,119.15; and the JSE USD Equities Index also advanced by 12.74 points to close at 158.98 points.
